Dutch and/or English language

Good communication is the key to collaboration.

In practice, misunderstandings arise not only from language differences but also when people speak the same language. Clear agreements, an open attitude, and the willingness to understand each other make the difference.

Language and success in the workplace

For many asylum seekers and status holders, learning the Dutch language is an important part of their integration. They are often highly motivated to learn the language and actively work to improve their skills. At SamenWerken MVO, we therefore require candidates to speak sufficient to excellent Dutch and/or English. We see good communication as essential for successful collaboration in the workplace. Our partners find in practice that the language barrier is often much smaller than expected. In fact, many companies experience that collaboration with asylum seekers and status holders goes smoothly, especially when there is room to grow together and learn from each other. This creates a work environment where motivation, commitment, and communication go hand in hand.

Investing in language development

Many of the people we support already speak Dutch and/or English. For those who do not yet fully master it, we actively encourage them to invest in their language skills. There are countless ways to do this: participating in language cafes in local libraries, using language apps like Duolingo or Duocards, reading (children's) books, and listening to Dutch music. Learning a new language naturally requires time and effort, but good communication is essential – both for successful collaboration in the workplace and for smooth integration into society. By investing in language development, our candidates increase their chances and support to fully participate, while employers benefit from motivated and communicative employees.

Dutch music

On Spotify, we have created a special "SamenWerken MVO" music list. Many asylum seekers, status holders, and refugees from Ukraine find this very useful. Choose one or more songs you like and read the lyrics while listening to the music. The playlist contains Dutch music and podcasts about the Dutch language. We have done our best to compile a list with diverse music styles, so you can always find a song that appeals to you. We will regularly update the list with new podcasts and songs.
